Pranay Verma next Indian High Commissioner to Dhaka, reports say

Pranay Kumar Verma, currently the Indian envoy to Vietnam, will be the country’s next High commissioner to Dhaka, WION reported today.

Vikram Kumar Doraiswami, who is the current envoy to Bangladesh, will be appointed the Indian High Commissioner in the UK.

In the past, Verma has served as the director-general of the East Asia Division at the Ministry of External Affairs and was also director-general for external relations at the Department of Atomic Energy looking after India’s nuclear diplomacy.

Bangladesh, India ties have seen an upswing, from connectivity to culture. Under High commissioner Doraiswami, high profile visits of Indian President Kovind and PM Modi took place last year to the country as part of celebration of ties, birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and independence anniversary.

Earlier, there were media reports that India’s incumbent Deputy Chief of Mission in the US, Sudhakar Dalela was expected to be the next High Commissioner to Bangladesh.
