Train derails in Brahmanbaria, rail link with Sylhet snapped

Train communication of Sylhet with other parts of the country remained suspended following an oil tanker derailment in Bijoynagar upazila of Brahmanbaria today (July 12, 2022).

Akhaura Railway Junction Loco shed in-charge Md Monir Uddin confirmed the development to our Brahmanbaria correspondent.

A Sylhet-bound oil tanker train from Akhaura veered off the tracks in Fatehpur area near Mukundpur Railway Station around 11am, snapping the rail link of Sylhet with other parts of the country, said Monir Uddin.

Saiful Islam, assistant station master of Mukundpur station, said the Sylhet-bound Paharika Express train from Chattogram got stranded at Akhaura railway junction station following the derailment.

A rescue train from Akhaura junction reached the spot around 2:30pm. The work was going on till filing of this report around 5:50pm.

It is not clear when the train service will resume, added Saiful Islam.
